Siebel
Systems and BEA Announce Availability of Siebel Component Assembly for WebLogic
9.0
Solution Accelerates J2EE Development and Deployment of Custom CRM Applications;
Advances Companies' Aligned Vision for Delivery of SOA
08 December 2005
BEAWORLD 2005 BEIJING AND SAN MATEO, CALIF. – December 8, 2005—Siebel
Systems Inc., a leading provider of customer-facing solutions, and BEA Systems,
Inc., a world leader in enterprise infrastructure software, today announced the
general availability of Siebel Component Assembly for J2EE-based BEA WebLogic Server
9.0. The combined offering is designed to help customers to significantly simplify
and speed the development of custom CRM applications, enhance organizational decision-making,
and increase end-user productivity. The solution also represents a major milestone
in an ongoing partnership between BEA and Siebel Systems to deliver on a common
vision for Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) via their respective Services Infrastructure
and Customer Adaptive Solutions software.
BEA’s Services Infrastructure vision promotes the free flow of business processes,
information and services to help organizations rapidly compose, configure and reuse
technology assets to more efficiently meet evolving business needs. Siebel
Customer Adaptive Solutions deliver compelling CRM applications that can allow companies
to understand and anticipate a customer’s needs; rapidly design and implement
customer-centric processes; continually re-align those processes for systemic, consistent
improvements; and direct the right actions across organizations to help maximize
customer satisfaction and profitability. Siebel Component Assembly on WebLogic Server
9.0 represents the convergence of these visions with two industry-leading products
that have incorporated standards-based reusable composite application development
for enterprise grade applications.
With Service Oriented Architecture and industry standards as the blueprint, companies
like BEA and Siebel can provide organizations a proven, scalable and secure environment
designed to help them to quickly build their individual Customer Adaptive Solutions.
"A Service Oriented Architecture is now a viable strategic direction for companies,"said
Sheryl Kingstone, Program Manager, Customer Centric Strategies, Yankee Group. "When
Yankee Group interviewed IT executives’ use of SOA we found that 30 percent
were not only replacing applications and business processes with SOA-based ones,
but that 28 percent were augmenting existing applications and core business processes
with SOA. When asking these executives which type of project the SOA initiative
is addressing or will address, we found that 65 percent are currently evaluating
or deploying SOA for customer-facing initiatives. Siebel Component Assembly
on the WebLogic Server 9 can provide a head start for companies that want to build
custom applications that are scalable, flexible and secure."
"Siebel Component Assembly for WebLogic 9.0 is another example of how BEA continues
to attract leading enterprise-based application developers to our application server,"
said Jeff Pendleton, Vice President, Product and Solutions Marketing, BEA Systems.
"We are committed to continuing our relationship with Siebel and driving SOA-based
development and standards forward."

Continuing Commitment to SOA
BEA and Siebel share a common vision to better empower customers to enjoy the benefits
of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). In addition to building Siebel Component
Assembly, the two companies, along with other industry-leading vendors, collaborated
on a broad industry effort to architect an open, language independent, specification
for building SOA applications called Service Component Architecture (SCA). Announced
on November 30, 2005, SCA is a programming model designed to simplify the development
of creating business services, and includes an update to the Service Data Objects
(SDO) specification for accessing data residing in multiple locations and formats.
The work on Siebel Component Assembly provided a critical use case and requirements
to this over-arching specification, defining how developers can quickly describe
services and data graphs using meta-data, and wire and re-wire them together to
quickly assemble, relevant, customer adaptive solutions. SCA and SDO are available
royalty free and the authors are soliciting industry feedback.
