BEA
Advances SOA Leadership with New Products, Partners, Customers and Programs
BEAWorld Unites Executives, Architects, Developers and IT Managers to Share SOA
Best Practices and Bridge the Business-to-IT Gap.
27 September 2005
BEAWORLD 2005 – Santa Clara, Calif. – Sept. 27, 2005 – Capitalizing
on its early leadership in providing the software infrastructure for Service-Oriented
Architecture (SOA), BEA Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: BEAS) today announced a series of
new products, partners, customers and programs that will help customers "Think
liquid" and accelerate their SOA projects from pilot to production.
"SOA is the most powerful movement in enterprise technology today," said
Alfred Chuang, chairman and chief executive officer, BEA Systems, Inc. "The
days of business silos and software smokestacks are coming to an end, and our customers
couldn’t be happier. No longer will managers have to cobble together scraps
of information through dozens of phone calls, requests from corporate databases
and hours of spreadsheet work. For the first time, they will be able to tap into
a network of services that deliver what they need when they need it, all based on
a common software infrastructure for applications and services that masks the complexity
of underlying technologies."
Announcements at BEAWorld today include:
Introduction of BEA WebLogic Real Time edition to deliver predictable real-time
application responses to enterprise applications running on the WebLogic product
family;
Delivering on the promise made earlier this year on offering "blended"
development and deployment choices to developers, BEA delivers the first J2EE Application
Environment to Support Apache Beehive, Apache XMLBeans and the Eclipse Web Tools
Platform. BEA also announced the availability of customer support for the Spring
framework, as well as certifying Spring for WebLogic Server;
New benchmarks that showcase BEA technology prowess including breakthrough performance
for next-generation telecom networks using WebLogic SIP Server and the latest Intel
Pentium Architecture processors, which together exceed stringent industry expectations
for call throughput and message latency for Voice over IP (VoIP) networks;
Customers continue to count on BEA: Banco Credito Inversiones (BCI), one of the
largest banks in Chile, selected BEA WebLogic Platform over IBM WebSphere, as the
foundation for a unified banking and investment portal that serves business and
retail customers; and
Formation of a Global Management Alliance that aligns seven top management software
vendors with BEA to simplify management, improve operations and reduce downtime
of mission-critical applications based on WebLogic Server 9.0, together with BMC
Software, Computer Associates, Hewlett-Packard, Mercury Interactive, Motive, Quest
Software, Symantec Corp. and Wily Technology Inc.
BEA and Partners Help Customers Accelerate SOA, Unify Business and IT
According to Gartner, "SOA will shift the focus from tools and packaged suites
to modular offerings from multiple vendors that can be assembled and combined by
a systems integrator. By 2008, SOA will provide the basis for 80 percent of development
projects." Many enterprises will share their SOA experience this week at BEAWorld,
which includes tailored insight for four key audiences that make up the IT organization
and how SOA is changing the way they code, plan, operate and manage their enterprise.
This includes: the executive need for a "dashboard" view of their business
metrics and operations; the architect’s emerging role as the unifying force
in IT – standardizing infrastructure, maintaining the catalog of IT services
and "composing" business processes; the developer’s continued role
coding new features, functions and applications; and the IT manager’s need
to quickly provision services, run efficient operations and deliver guaranteed service
levels.
Why is SOA gaining traction now? Several factors are making it possible to start
the SOA journey today. Web services standards have matured, application suites are
evolving and customers are increasingly facing difficulties in interoperating suites
from different vendors, and increasing cost of maintaining current application suites.
"SOA is a powerful reality for customers today and the real power of SOA will
come from freeing ‘frozen and idle assets,’ which represent a huge part
of IT spend," said Bruce Graham, BEA’s vice president of worldwide professional
services. "Many of our customers are trying to deal with bad architecture that
has resulted from monolithic application stacks, non-standard infrastructure and
disruptive business changes. The real-world approach shows that best-of-breed and
heterogeneity are just a fact of life, and thawing out those assets are key to gaining
business advantage from IT."
SOA is also breaking down boundaries between IT vendors, as evidenced by the amount
of standards development, collaboration and adoption work happening across the industry.
BEA has been a key player in those standards efforts to date, including its founding
role in the WS* consortium and its participation in groups that have spawned key
standards like SOAP and XML.

survey conducted by BEA among more than 1,000 customers, please refer to the SOA
