24 January 2006

SAN JOSE, Calif—Jan. 24, 2006—BEA Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: BEAS), a world leader in enterprise infrastructure software, today announced that Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has standardized on BEA WebLogic Server®. The company that markets the PlayStation family of products in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Australasia is using the open, standards-based BEA technology to help enable business innovation through the rapid delivery of new PlayStation services in up to 15 territories and 17 languages. This high performance, unified technology foundation is designed to enable SCEE to accelerate customer service responsiveness and can help reduce the cost of servicing individual network gaming customer support enquiries.

From Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s headquarters in London, UK, Oliver Hall, Head of Consumer Applications, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Ltd. commented, “The decision to standardize on BEA WebLogic® can help to ensure SCEE continues to set new standards in interactive entertainment. This scalable, reliable and high performance enterprise infrastructure solution is designed to help the company to develop, deploy and manage pioneering services quickly and effectively. This can help ensure the company continues to offer the most compelling interactive content.”

SCEE continues to redefine the entertainment lifestyle with its PlayStation family of computer entertainment systems. BEA WebLogic Server provides SCEE with an industrial-strength application infrastructure designed for developing, integrating, securing and managing distributed service-oriented applications. By simplifying and unifying the enterprise infrastructure, the company is poised to deliver greater value in less time—and at reduced cost.

”The new environment already comprises a comprehensive, self-service customer service application. By introducing a single, 360 degree view of the customer, integrated end-to-end business processes, and creating access to rich, personalized information on end users, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has accelerated the time taken to respond to customer enquiries and reduced the cost of servicing each network gaming customer support enquiry,” added Hall. BEA WebLogic Server is designed so that it can also be used to support the development of countless other compelling solutions, which can be geared to helping customers enjoy their favorite games, music, videos and photos instantly, anywhere.

“We compared BEA against other leading application server vendors and chose BEA WebLogic Server because it supports the latest compliance and security standards. BEA WebLogic also incorporates the latest Web services technologies and a broad range of native integration capabilities,” said Hall.
