BEA Systems WebLogic SIP Server Receives INTERNET TELEPHONY Magazine's "Product of the Year" Award for 2005

SAN JOSE, Calif.—Jan. 23, 2006BEA Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: BEAS), a world leader in enterprise infrastructure software, today announced that BEA WebLogic SIP Server™ has received a “Product of the Year” award from INTERNET TELEPHONY® magazine, a leading publication in the rapidly growing VoIP/IP telephony industry.

23 January 2006

BEA WebLogic SIP Server is the industry’s first converged J2EE and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) application server designed to provide an integrated SIP, HTTP, Enterprise Java Bean (EJB) container to help enable the rapid development and delivery of next-generation, converged, multimedia communication services. A key component of the BEA WebLogic Communications Platform™, BEA WebLogic SIP Server is designed to help telecommunications network operators accelerate the deployment of next-generation network architectures based on SIP and IP Multimedia Subsystems (IMS), and to help increase revenue by more readily capitalizing on IMS and next-generation service delivery opportunities.

“Each year INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine bestows its Product of the Year awards on companies that have demonstrated excellence in technological advancement and application refinements,” said Rich Tehrani, group publisher and Editor-in-Chief of INTERNET TELEPHONY. “BEA Systems has demonstrated to the editors of INTERNET TELEPHONY that its WebLogic SIP Server product is committed to quality and innovation while addressing the real needs in the marketplace.”

Building on its heritage and current customer base—all Global 50 telecommunications operators run portions of their Operational Support Systems (OSS) business on BEA—the company can help enable telecom network operators to increase revenue by more readily capitalizing on emerging IP-based next-generation network opportunities. BEA WebLogic Communications Platform™, which consists of BEA WebLogic SIP Server, and BEA WebLogic Network Gatekeeper™, forms a cornerstone of the BEA WebLogic Service Delivery solution, designed to address critical business and technical challenges within the telecommunications industry today. The BEA WebLogic Communications Platform, along with additional technologies and services from industry-leading partners, is helping BEA drive the convergence of IT and telecom networks.

The criteria INTERNET TELEPHONY editors used to select this year’s winners included company vision, leadership and attention to detail. The companies selected to receive INTERNET TELEPHONY “Product of the Year” awards for 2005 have been instrumental in the explosive growth of VoIP and the larger IP telephony industry this year. The full list of winners will be published in the magazine’s January 2006 issue, with additional company profiles featured in the February 2006 issue.

“We are honored to be selected for this award,” said Mike McHugh, vice president and general manager, BEA WebLogic Communications Platform, BEA Systems. “WebLogic SIP Server was created with the sole purpose of breaking down the walls that have existed between IT and telecommunications networks and merging them together. This strategy is intended to give carriers a greater opportunity to deliver revenue-enhancing services more quickly.”
